Limitations of a Technical Screen Fabric

As you've gathered, the technical screen fabric is not a miracle solution in itself. Its advantages are numerous, but to get the most out of it, certain rules must be followed.

So what are the limitations of a Technical Screen Fabric?

Here they are, summed up in 3 simple rules to keep in mind:

Nobody beats the sun

Whether technical or conventional, a projection screen fabric remains passive. It does not create light — it only redirects it in certain directions. So if the room housing your Home Cinema faces due south in Nice and you plan to watch films in the afternoon with the curtains open, be prepared to invest in a projector capable of competing with the power of the sun (100,000 lumens per m²). Because even the best technical screen fabric, like the Infinity fabric, cannot match it.

Same light source = no absorption

The technical projection screen fabric is not "smart" — meaning it does not filter light reflections based on their type, but simply based on their origin. Keep in mind, therefore, that a key limitation of the ALR technical screen fabric is determined by where the stray light comes from. If the stray light originates from the sides of the screen, you benefit from all its capabilities. On the other hand, if the stray light comes directly from the same area as the projector's light, the technical screen fabric will lose its effect (which is actually a good thing — otherwise the projector's own light wouldn't appear either).

So if your setup includes a light source coming from the same direction as your projector (such as a large window), invest in a good blind or curtain before purchasing a projection screen or technical fabric like our Infinity fabric.

Your eyes must be on the opposite side from the projector

To get the most from the optical effect of the ALR Infinity technical screen fabric, the projector should ideally be mounted up high (which is exactly what our Home Cinema projector lifts are designed for :). Placing the Home Cinema projector on a head-height shelf or on a coffee table will not produce the intended effect.
