Habit has a way of making us forget about that imposing black rectangle dominating so many living room walls. Yet many people still see it as a necessary evil. Fortunately, there are plenty of clever ways to blend your TV seamlessly into your interior. Here are 5 ways to hide your TV — and perhaps put an end to the age-old battle between his gadgets and her décor.

Hide your TV behind a mirror

Concealing your TV behind a mirror creates a striking visual effect. A one-way mirror hides the screen completely when the TV is off, then lets the picture show through the moment it is switched on. Your flat-screen becomes entirely invisible when not in use. Mirror TV systems require custom fabrication and installation by a qualified professional, which does make them fairly expensive. Budget upwards of €5,000 for the supply and integration of a 48" TV. That said, a TV hidden behind a one-way mirror is an excellent solution when cost is not the primary consideration.
Hide your TV inside a cabinet

Hiding your TV inside a cabinet is both a practical and stylish solution. The TV is concealed within a unit that also houses your other electronics. Once quite expensive, these systems have become far more accessible. The MobilierMoss website, for example, offers a complete unit (lift mechanism and cabinet included) for under €1,500. The added benefit of a retractable TV cabinet is that your wall remains free for whatever décor you choose. The limited range of designs does mean it will not suit every interior, however.

Hide your TV in the ceiling

Retracting your TV into the ceiling is a great option, especially when the screen sits at the centre of a room. Ceiling lifts for flat-screen TVs are still relatively expensive — expect to pay at least €4,000 for the motorised mount and installation alone, not including the TV. One caveat: a ceiling TV lift preserves your décor but remains slightly visible even when fully retracted. This solution is best suited to large, open spaces where there is no suitable wall to mount a flat-screen.
Replace your TV with a projector

Switching to a projector frees your wall entirely from electronic devices. You can of course project directly onto the wall, but you will not get the full benefit of the projector's picture quality, and you will not be able to decorate the wall as you please. A flush-mounted electric projection screen is therefore the ideal solution — letting you enjoy your entertainment while keeping your space free of unsightly electronics. On the projection side, smart projectors like AiO blend seamlessly into the room and give you direct access to content from Netflix, BeInSports, and many more, thanks to an intuitive smart interface.
