Projector-Lift Compatibility: 4 Practical Tips for Making the Right Choice

Beyond optical and technical specifications, projectors have a significant practical dimension that's important to take into account.
This is especially true when you're planning to conceal your projector inside a false ceiling using a motorised lift.
Here are 4 tips to help you ensure the best possible Projector-Lift compatibility.

Horizontal Lens Shift means you don't need to worry about the precise lateral positioning of the projector and lift.

Projector-Lift Compatibility: Opt for Projectors with a Centred Lens

Projectors with a centred lens are simpler to install.
The central position of the lens allows you to instinctively position the projector — without any additional calculation —
to align it perfectly with the motorised projection screen.

With a projector that has an off-centre lens,
the lens offset carries over to the cut-out made in the false ceiling for the motorised projector lift.

Installing a projector with a centred lens therefore simplifies installation while also eliminating the risk of positioning calculation errors.

Projector-Lift Compatibility: Prioritise Home Cinema Projectors with Horizontal Lens Shift

Lens Shift allows you to move the projected image without physically moving the projector.
It's the best feature for precisely aligning the projected image within the black frame of the projection screen.
Some Home Cinema projector models only offer vertical lens shift —
meaning the image can only be moved up or down.

However, in a Home Cinema setup with a projector lift, it's horizontal shift that really matters.
This is what allows you to correct any misalignment in the trap door cut into the false ceiling.

Choosing a projector with horizontal lens shift greatly increases the chances of achieving a perfect Home Cinema installation.
At AV Concept Products, we only offer projectors with both horizontal and vertical lens shift.
This saves us time during our installations —
and saves you from tearing your hair out if you're doing the installation yourself.

Projector-Lift Compatibility: Choose a Projector with a Motorised Lens

A motorised lens makes image adjustment faster and easier during installation.
It eliminates the need for repeated climbs up and down a stepladder
in an often awkward position just to adjust the image using a mechanical dial.
A Home Cinema projector with a motorised lens also lets you select from a range of predefined image formats to match whatever content you're watching.

This ensures you always get the best picture quality, regardless of the film's aspect ratio.
The feature is even more valuable when used alongside our Co3B sync module.
You can then handle all lens-related adjustments directly from your smartphone.

If you want your Home Cinema to be fully configurable from your sofa without getting up,
make sure your Home Cinema projector is equipped with a motorised lens.

Projector-Lift Compatibility: Choose a Home Cinema Projector with RS232 Connectivity

RS-232 command protocol support in your projector allows you to connect it to a Home Cinema automation controller such as our Co3B sync module.
This type of solution brings all your Home Cinema devices under a single control interface, accessible directly from your smartphone.
With the Co3B in particular, connectivity is even more straightforward since it uses only connectors with super easy-to-plug connections 🙂

If you want to add that extra touch that transforms a good Home Cinema installation into an extraordinary one, opt for a Home Cinema projector with RS232 control.
