5 Smart Home Scenarios for a Connected Villa

A smart home system only makes sense when it is programmed with scenarios tailored to your lifestyle. Buttons, apps, and sensors are merely tools — it is the scenarios that transform your villa into a truly intelligent home.

At AV Concept Products, scenario programming is the step we consider the most important in any smart home project. It determines whether your investment translates into tangible daily comfort or simply a collection of gadgets.

Here are five real-world scenarios we install in the vast majority of our high-end villa projects.

Scenario 1: Welcome — "I'm Home"

The Welcome scenario is the first one you use every day. It triggers automatically when your smartphone enters the geofencing perimeter of your villa (approximately 200 metres), or manually via a button at the entrance.

What happens in under 30 seconds:

  • The gate opens automatically and the driveway lighting comes on
  • The front door unlocks (smart lock)
  • Welcome lighting activates in the entrance hall, corridor, and living room — a warm ambiance at 40% brightness
  • Heating or air conditioning adjusts to your comfort temperature (if you were in Away mode, the system anticipated your return 30 minutes in advance via geolocation)
  • Your favourite playlist starts playing softly in the living room and kitchen via the multiroom audio system
  • Blinds adjust according to the time of day: open during the day, closed in the evening with compensatory lighting

"Night Welcome" variant: if the scenario triggers after 10 pm, lighting is reduced to 15%, music does not start, and only a subtle illuminated pathway guides you from the entrance to your bedroom.

System: Control4 with a geolocation module, or KNX triggered by an NFC badge at the entrance. Geolocation via the Control4 app is the most seamless solution — no action is required on your part.

Scenario 2: Cinema — "Let's Watch a Film"

The Cinema scenario is arguably the most spectacular. It transforms your living space into a screening room within seconds, simultaneously orchestrating around ten devices.

The Cinema scenario orchestrates blinds, lighting, projector, and sound with a single press

Full sequence (triggered by a button, the Halo remote, or a voice command):

  • Blinds and curtains: fully closed for complete blackout
  • Lighting: progressive dimming over 5 seconds — only floor-level guide LEDs remain active at 5%
  • Screen: motorised projection screen descends (CeilingScreen Tensioned X motorised or fixed EdgeFrame TrueAcoustic depending on the installation)
  • Projector: Sony or Epson projector powers on, correct HDMI input selected
  • Amplifier: Denon, Marantz, or Trinnov processor activates, appropriate audio mode selected (Dolby Atmos for a film, stereo for a concert)
  • Air conditioning: switches to silent mode — fan speed reduced to a minimum to avoid interfering with the sound. Silent air conditioning is a crucial element that is often overlooked
  • Volume: pre-set to a calibrated viewing level (typically -20 dB reference)

At the end of the film, the "End Cinema" scenario reverses the sequence: lighting gradually rises, blinds open if it is daytime, the projector shuts off, and the audio system goes into standby.

System: Control4 excels in this scenario thanks to its native AV integration. IR, IP, and RS-232 serial control of audio/video equipment is handled natively. Combined with a KNX backbone for blinds and lighting, this delivers the most refined smart home cinema experience available.

Scenario 3: Good Night — "Time for Bed"

The Good Night scenario is the last gesture of your day. One press of the button on your bedside panel, a "Good night" to your voice assistant, or a tap on your smartphone, and the house switches to night mode.

Sequence:

  • Complete shutdown of all villa lighting, except a subtle illuminated pathway between the bedroom and bathroom (LEDs at 3%)
  • All motorised blinds and roller shutters close throughout the home
  • Front door, gate, and garage lock (with a discreet audio confirmation)
  • Air conditioning switches to night mode: temperature lowered by 1–2°C to promote sleep, ventilation at minimum
  • All multiroom music stops
  • Home cinema and televisions go into standby
  • CCTV activates in perimeter detection mode (if installed)
  • Presence simulation in rooms visible from outside (random lighting on/off if the mode is enabled)

"Children's Good Night" variant: same sequence, but the child's bedroom night light remains on, and the baby monitor connects to the multiroom system so it can be heard in the master bedroom.

Scenario 4: Away — "We're Going on Holiday"

The Away scenario is essential for second homes and frequent travellers. It optimises security, energy consumption, and property maintenance in your absence.

What happens when you activate "Away" (via the app, from anywhere):

  • Enhanced security: all access points locked, CCTV activated in alert mode with push notifications when motion is detected
  • Presence simulation: every evening, the system turns lights on and off in different rooms following a random yet realistic pattern, and opens and closes blinds morning and evening
  • Energy management: heating in frost-protection mode (16°C), air conditioning off, water heater in eco mode
  • Property protection: water leak and temperature sensors remain active and send alerts in the event of an anomaly
  • Garden: automatic irrigation continues on the seasonal programme, adjusted by the weather station
  • Return: 2 hours before your return (detected via geolocation or activated manually), the heating rises back to the normal set point and the villa welcomes you with the Welcome scenario

System: this scenario makes full use of Control4's remote management capabilities (4Sight app) or a VPN-accessible KNX server. The combination of KNX sensors and Control4 supervision is ideal for a luxury villa.

Scenario 5: Entertaining — "We're Having Friends Over"

The Entertaining scenario transforms your villa into an optimal social space. It creates a festive atmosphere and adapts all systems to welcome your guests.

The Entertaining scenario configures festive lighting and music throughout all rooms

Sequence:

  • Festive lighting: warm ambiance at 60–70% in the living room and dining room, accent lighting on artwork and architectural features, decorative exterior lighting (terrace, garden, pool)
  • Background music: an "Entertaining" playlist plays in the living areas (living room, kitchen, terrace) at a volume calibrated for conversation — typically 15 to 20 dB below cinema level
  • Air conditioning: anticipates the additional thermal load (10 to 15 people generate approximately 1 to 1.5 kW of heat) — the set point is lowered by 2°C before guests arrive
  • Simplified access: gate in free-open mode or temporary badge, pedestrian pathway lighting activated
  • Blinds: open during the day to enjoy the view, programmed to close at sunset with automatic lighting transition

"Pool Party" variant: pool lighting, outdoor music, and pool heating added as required.

How to Programme Your Scenarios

Programming smart home scenarios is not a DIY operation — at least not if you are aiming for a reliable and coherent result. Here is the process we follow at AV Concept Products:

Step 1: Lifestyle Interview

We spend time with you to understand your habits: what time you wake up, whether you work from home, how you use your terrace, how often you entertain, and so on. Scenarios must reflect your life, not a theoretical ideal.

Step 2: Interaction Mapping

We map all controlled devices and all trigger conditions (time, presence, geolocation, sensor, button, voice). This allows us to identify potential conflicts — for example, a Good Night scenario switching off music while the Entertaining scenario is still active.

Step 3: Programming and Testing

Each scenario is programmed into the system (Composer Pro for Control4, ETS for KNX), tested individually, then tested in interaction with the other scenarios. This cross-testing phase is what sets apart an installation that "works in a demo" from one that performs reliably day after day.

Step 4: Training

We train every household member on how to use the scenarios: physical buttons, the app, and voice commands. A scenario that nobody uses through unfamiliarity is a wasted investment.

Step 5: Day-30 Fine-Tuning

We return 30 days after installation to refine the scenarios based on your real-world feedback. It is often during this visit that the best adjustments are found — because not everything can be anticipated before you have lived with the system.

Conclusion

These five scenarios cover 80% of the daily use cases in a connected villa. They form the foundation upon which we then build more specific automations: Pool scenario, Remote Work scenario, Gentle Wake-Up scenario, Intruder Alarm scenario, and more.

The key insight is that a smart home scenario is not a gadget — it is a carefully considered sequence of actions that simplifies your daily life and saves you time every day. When properly programmed, a single scenario can replace 10 to 15 manual gestures you repeat every day.

At AV Concept Products, we design each scenario as a fully-fledged mini-project in its own right. Because the devil is in the details — and it is the details that make the difference between a connected home and a truly intelligent one.

Let's talk about your scenarios — every villa deserves bespoke programming.
